Tarawih is one of the excellent acts of worship that is offered during the night of Ramadan. It is another name for Qiyam Al-layl and the reason for such name is that Muslims used to rest after every four rak`ahs. The Muslims used this term from early times.
Sheikh Shams Ad Duha sheds some light on the merits of the night prayer and how to increase your concentration while offering it. One should focus on the words of the Qur’an that he/she understands and reflects upon them. There are always words every Muslim will know, so when one hears these words, he/she reflects upon them. When one hears Allah, he/she thinks of the greatness of Allah. When one hears paradise, he/she thinks of the pleasures of Paradise and asks Allah for it. When one hears hellfire, he/she thinks about the suffering of the people in the hellfire and seeks refuge in Allah from it.
