Asalam Alaykum, I hope you’re well. I just want to ask how does praying nafl prayers before the fard salah work if I pray at home? Since I’m at home I pray at my salah at the time of adhan so is it okay to pray the nafl prayer first then the salah or do I pray the nafl before the adhan time and then pray the fard? JazakAllah Khair
Thank you very much for your question. It is our pleasure to answer it.
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.
The time for a Sunnah prayer that comes before a fard prayer does not begin until the time for that prayer begins (after the adhan).
Ibn Qudaamah said: "The time for every Sunnah prayer that comes before a fard prayer lasts from when the time for that fard prayer begins until it is done. The time for every Sunnah prayer that comes after a fard prayer lasts from after the fard prayer is done until the time for that prayer ends."
Hence, it is clear brother that the regular sunnah prayers that are offered before a fard prayer must be done after the time for the fard prayer begins (after hearing the adhan). In case, you offer them before the time begins, thinking that the time has begun, then you find out that the time had not begun, then you must repeat them, and the first prayer will be a general kind of naafil prayer, not a regular Sunnah prayer.
And Allah Knows best.
