Delaying Prayer for a Qur’an Program, Permissible?

Question:

If we are teaching a program that focuses on the recitation of the Qur’an and the time for prayer comes, shall we continue the program or should we go for Salah?

Answer:

Almighty Allah says:

“Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.” (An-Nisa’ 4:103)

Um Farwah, one of those who gave pledge of allegiance to the Prophet, narrated: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked: ‘Which deed is the best?’ So he said: ‘Salah in the beginning of its time.'” (Muslim)

`Abdullah bin Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, I asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), “Which of the deeds is loved most by Allah?” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Prayer at its due time.” I asked, ”What is next?” He (peace be upon him) replied, ”Kindness to parents.” I asked, ”What is next?” He replied, ”Jihad in the way of Allah.” (Agreed Upon)

ِA Muslim should always hasten to offer Salah after the coming of its time. This is a clear order and one should rearrange one’s duties accordingly except only in special cases such as travelling or illness in which other regulations are observed.

To know more about the ruling of delaying prayer for both men and women, watch this short fatwa with Dr. Muhammad Salah.
