Can a Shower Count for Wudu’?

Shower and Ablution

Question:

If one takes a shower, is that sufficient with no need to perform ablution?

Answer:

If the ghusl or the shower was to become pure because of janabah or menstruation, then as long as you have the intention for wudu’, you will actually achieve wudu’ and you do not need to do the actions of wudu’.

But if the shower is done to cool down or to clean oneself, then it does not take the place of wudu’.

When Sheikh Ibn `Uthaymeen was asked: Does ghusl following janabah take the place of wudu’?

He replied:

If a person is in a state of janabah and he does ghusl, then that is sufficient and he does not need to do wudu’, because Allah says:

“If you are in a state of Janabah (i.e. after a sexual discharge), purify yourselves (bathe your whole body)…” (Al-Ma’idah 5:6)

Here is the detailed answer for this question from Sheikh Abu Eesa Niamatullah.
