Forget to Pray Zhuhr Prayer until `Asr Time

Question:

I remembered that I had not offered the Zhuhr Prayer (Noon) while I was in the bus, and it was a few minutes before `Asr (Afternoon) prayer comes in. I was not in a state of taharah (ablution), what should I do in such case?

Answer:

Muslims are ordered to pray five times a day at specific times. Almighty Allah says:

Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times. (An- Nisa’ 4:103)

Delaying prayer beyond its appointed time is a grave major sin, as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“So woe to those who pray (hypocrites). But] who are heedless of their prayer”. (Al-Ma`un 107:4-5)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The (whole) earth has been made a mosque (or a place of prayer) and a means of purification for me, so wherever a man of my ummah may be when the time for prayer comes, let him pray.” (Al-Bukhari)
