In this episode, Sheikh Mufti continues his enlightening talk about the second pillar of Islam — prayer (Salah).
He begins by describing the emotions a believer experiences upon hearing the Adhan (call to prayer), in contrast to those who mock or take it lightly. About them, the Almighty Allah says:
“And when you call to prayer, they take it in ridicule and amusement. That is because they are a people who do not use reason.”
— (Al-Ma’idah 5:58)
Secondly, the obligatory prayers are distributed throughout the day and night at prescribed times, ensuring that a Muslim remains in a constant state of remembrance. Allah the Almighty says:
“And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night.”
— (Hud 11:114)
Thirdly, prayer serves as one of the fundamental ways through which sins are expiated. Allah says:
“I am with you. If you establish prayer and give zakah… I will surely remove from you your misdeeds…”
— (Al-Ma’idah 5:12)
Fourth, laziness in prayer is a known trait of the hypocrites. Allah describes them in the Qur’an:
“Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little.”
— (An-Nisaa’ 4:142)
