In the final part of this enlightening talk, Sheikh Mufti Menk summarizes some crucial aspects of prayer, which is the second pillar of Islam, as follows:
-
Prayer Relieves Stress and Worry
Prayer serves as a means of relieving stress, anxiety, and worry. Through the connection with Allah, a believer finds solace and peace. -
Prayer is a Source of Mercy
Allah, in the Qur’an, links prayer to receiving mercy:
“And establish prayer, give zakah, and obey the Messenger – that you may receive mercy.”
— (An-Nur 24:26)
Prayer is a key cause of Allah’s mercy, guiding us to His forgiveness and grace. -
Prayer is Integral to Success in This World and the Hereafter
The Qur’an clearly defines the believers’ path to success:
“Certainly, will the believers have succeeded. They who are during their prayer humbly submissive.”
— (Al-Mu’minun 23:1-2)
Success in both this life and the next is tied to the quality of our prayer, particularly when offered with humility and devotion. -
Beware of Distraction from Prayer
Allah warns that those who allow their wealth or children to distract them from their prayer will face consequences. As stated in the Qur’an:
“But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil.”
— (Maryam 19:59)
Prayer must remain a priority, and neglecting it brings severe punishment.
