Ruling of Changing Positions After Fard Prayer for Nafl

Question: 

Is it necessary to move from one place to another after praying the Fard Prayer (obligatory prayer) for the voluntary prayer? 

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

It is preferred to separate between obligatory and voluntary or nafl prayers by speaking or moving to another place. Some of the scholars stated that the wisdom behind that is so as to increase the number of places where the Muslim prostrates, so that they will testify in his favor on the Day of Judgment.

It was narrated that As-Sa’ib ibn Yazid said that Mu`awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan told him, “If you offer the Friday prayer, do not connect it with another prayer, till you talk or go out. Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) had commanded us accordingly: That we should not connect a prayer to another prayer till we talk or go out (in between them).” ( Muslim)
