Praying Tahhajjud Soon after the Isha’ Prayer

Question:

Can I pray tahhajjud soon after the Isha’ Prayer? I always set the alarm for Fajr Prayer, but every time the alarm goes up I just turned it off and continue sleeping. How can I get up and observe the Fajr Prayer?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

The tahajjud time begins after the Isha’ prayer but the best time for tahajjud (voluntary night prayer) is the last third of the night. Therefore, whoever performs tahajjud at the beginning of the night (i.e. right after the Isha’ prayer) gets the reward of tahajjud

`A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) observed Witr prayer in every part of the night, at the beginning, middle and in the last part. So, his performance of Witr extended until dawn.” (Agreed Upon)

It should be noted that the observance of the prescribed prayer whether it is Fajr or any of the other five daily prayers, is superior than performing tahajjud the whole night of prayer. One should not pray at night and skip the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer.

Some Advice to Wake up for Fajr Prayer

– One should Sleep Early.

If ones sleep early, it is natural that he/she shall wake up early too, which essentially fulfills one’s purpose of waking up for prayers.

– Set your Alarm and Keep it far away.

If you have your alarm set on your clock or phone by your side table, you will be very tempted to hit the dismiss or snooze button. Set your alarm and keep it at a distance where you have to literally get out of your bed to turn it off.
