Making Sujud Ash-Shukr During Menstruation

Question:

Is it permissible to make sujud ash-shukr (prostration of thankfulness) or sujud at-tilawah (prostration of recitation) during menstruation period?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

Most scholars are of the opinion that one who is physically unclean (because of sex, or menstruation, or post childbirth, etc.) should not physically touch the Glorious Qur’an. This is based on a hadith from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he stated that nothing kept the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) from touching the Qur’an save being sexually impure.

Also all the scholars see that it is permissible for a woman, who is experiencing her normal or post childbirth menstruation, to recite the Qur’an from memory, or make supplications, or praise and glorify her Lord Most High, Most Exalted; but it would be best if she would abstain from physically touching the Glorious Qur’an with her bare hands.

In case a woman experiencing her menstruation happens to listen to the Glorious Qur’an and comes across a verse of Sujud at-tilawah, she should make the required prostration as normal as it is not part of prayer.
