Praying Nafl in Congregation: Allowed?

Question:

What is the ruling of offering Nafl (voluntary) Prayers such as Duha Payer?

Answer:

Duha means the time of sunrise.

Jurists defined it as an optional two-rak`ah prayer that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to offer frequently and advised his Companions to pray it. The time of Duha is between sunrise and the Zhuhr (Noon) Prayer.

There are many hadiths that highlight the virtues and rewards of the Duha Prayer, for example:

Abu Dharr narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “In the morning charity is due from every bone in the body of every one of you. Every utterance of Allah’s glorification is an act of charity. Every utterance of praise of Him is an act of charity, every utterance of profession of His Oneness is an act of charity, every utterance of profession of His Greatness is an act of charity, enjoining good is an act of charity, forbidding what is disreputable is an act of charity, and two rak`ahs which one prays in the forenoon will suffice.” (Muslim)

Some voluntary prayers are recommended to always be offered in congregation, such as the prayer for rain, the eclipse prayers, and tarawih prayer. Other prayers, such as the greeting of the masjid, Duha prayer, and the regular voluntary prayers, are generally to be offered individually, but it is permissible to infrequently pray them in congregation.
