The Ruling of Reciting Silently When Praying Alone

Question:

What is the ruling of reciting silently when offering one of those prayers (Salah) which we should recite out loud during them (Fajr, Maghrib and Isha’)? Is the prayer valid?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

`Ubadah ibn As-Samit narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying, Reciting out loud in Fajr (Dawn) prayer and in the first two rak`ahs of Maghrib and `Isha’ is Sunnah for both one who is leading the prayers and one who is praying alone. If a person recites quietly there is no sin on him, but that means that he is neglecting a Sunnah.
