Bleeding After Menstruation

Question:

I performed ghusl (ritual bath) after my regular monthly menses (menstruation), but days later I experienced bleeding again. So, is such bleeding considered hayd (monthly period) or is it an irregular bleeding?

Answer:

Hayd (menstruation period) is a kind of blood that is discharged from the womb of a woman monthly. The minimum period of Hayd is one day and one night and the maximum period is ten days and ten nights.

Responding to this question Dr. Muhammad Salah states there are two things that should be realized with regard to the discharges of women.

First, regarding the monthly period; women normally have what is known as ‘`Adah’  (regular period) which varies from a woman to another. Some women may have seven days, five days or less.

So, once a woman experiences either the dryness of the private part or the clear (white) discharge, then she has to perform ghusl and she is in a state of taharah (purity).

If she experiences a new bleeding after the regular monthly period, then it will regarded as istihadah (irregular bleeding).
